Training Band

The Training Band is the ideal environment in which to learn how to play an instrument as part of a brass band.  We encourage players of any age or standard including complete beginners.  We have a variety of brass instruments available for loan for fully subscribed Training Band members.

The main aim of the Training Band is to enable players to develop their skills to a standard to be able to join the Oxted Band.   There are a number of members in the Oxted Band who are ‘graduates’ of the Training Band and many still help with Training Band.

Vacancy – Training Band Leader

The Training Band is currently in hiatus following an enforced break during the pandemic.  We are currently seeking a new leader to restart our activities.  Some of our main band members are keen to assist in this activity but we need somebody to train and conduct the group.

The training band’s primary focus is to prepare players to ‘graduate’ in future into the main band, which has been a successful route to recruitment of long-term players over the years.  As such, the band comprises Brass Band instrumentation only and we would expect a new leader to focus training in the direction of Brass Band music.

The training band has usually taken part in the main band’s Christmas Concert, and sometimes other events during the year.

We would expect any new leader to undertake a satisfactory DBS check and to attend a Brass Band England ‘Bandsafe’ course where appropriate.  We will also seek appropriate references.

If interested, please apply by email to secretary@oxtedband.co.uk, including details of any previous experience in this field.  This has the potential to be a paid role, subject to discussion.
