Tickets are £7.50, and will be available on the door.
Refreshments, included in the ticket price, will be served at the interval. (We welcome donations for refreshments but it is not compulsory).

It’s beginning to feel like Christmas

It’s still November but Oxted Band are getting in the Christmas mood and have already started on the carols after a wonderful evening on Thursday 15th November playing for the switching on of the Christmas Lights in Oxted Town centre.

We now enter our busiest month of the year and hope you will be able to join with us at one of our upcoming events.

In particular we have two concerts:

On Saturday 8th December at 3pm, we have our Christmas Concert at St John’s Church in Hurst Green, featuring all your favourite Christmas music and carols and the dedicated learners of our training band. Tickets are just £5 for adults and free for under 15s.

On Saturday 15th December at 8pm, we finish off our year with our annual visit to the Oxted Royal British Legion where we present a more informal Christmas concert.

Merry Christmas!

Oxted winners at Scaba Spring Contest

Oxted scabaspring18

Oxted took part in the Scaba Spring Contest today at the Hawth in Crawley, where we had a very successful morning.

Following the recent closure of the Scaba Registry, and as Oxted have not contested nationally for some years, we found ourselves in a new ungraded section where we competed against two other local bands: Cranbrook Town and Patcham Silver.

Our section played first so we were up early and on stage by 10:20 on a Sunday morning! We opened with the classic Rosehill march, and followed this with Morley Calvert’s work, the Canadian Folk Song Suite. Both seemed to go well, but with contesting you never really know until the results.

After enjoying listening to the Youth, Fourth and Third sections, the morning’s results were finally announced and we found ourselves cheering a lot:

Ungraded Section 1st Place: Oxted Band
Best March prize winners: Oxted Band
Best Conductor: Darrell Scholes, Oxted Band
Best Instrumentalist: Kevin Adams, Principal Cornet, Oxted Band

We came home very happy with our work and looking forward even more to now working towards our next events.

Join us for a Happy New Year!

After a busy Christmas period, Oxted Band have had a short rest and are now back to rehearsals ready for the 2018 season!

This year’s calendar is slowly filling up and the next few months will see us back on the contest stage at Scaba Spring in February, whilst 28th April brings our next Stars of Brass concert when we will be joined by Paul Woodward, trombonist from the Black Dyke Band. We’d love to see you at any of our events. If you have an event you’d like us to play at, do get in touch.

We currently have a couple of vacancies, particularly our Bass section is looking for reinforcements, so if you are or you know a capable tuba player looking for a new challenge we’d love to hear from you!

Happy New Year!
